The Development Intern will work closely with Harbor House of Central Florida's development department staff and other departments as appropriate, assisting with administrative, data, organizational, and other projects. The Intern will have the opportunity to further the mission of Harbor House of Central Florida by assisting with fundraising events and development activities.

The Special Events Intern will provide support for on-going development activities including:

  • Assist with the scheduling and logistics for third-party fundraising and tabling events
  • Assist with special event planning including development of logistical checklists for special events
  • Provide support to staff on special projects and initiatives
  • Assist with general office tasks (answering phone calls, returning emails, filing, copying, etc.) as needed
  • Schedule donor and sponsor meetings

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the internship, the intern will learn how to:

  • ARRANGE social functions, events or meetings between people
  • ASSUME responsibility for varied duties and job function
  • CLASSIFY and sort information into categories
  • COORDINATE events involving groups of people
  • CROSS-TRAIN with different coworkers or supervisors within the development department
  • DESIGN forms, plans, processes and/or duties and responsibilities
  • FIND and research information from various sources or people that can be helpful
  • IMPROVE skills in adobe, excel, office machines, etc
  • INITIATE personal contacts and new ideas for thanking donors
  • INVESTIGATE by seeking the underlying causes of a problem
  • PLAN and organize a project
  • QUESTION to obtain information or clarification
  • SCHEDULE meetings, networking events
  • WRITE correspondence, reports, memos, presentations, promotional

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least a Junior class standing/ranking-Undergraduate students majoring in Non-Profit Management, PR, Community Relations or related field.
  • Self-motivated, team player with the ability to meet deadlines, remain flexible and adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, with keen attention to details, as well as excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Have self-discipline and time management skills necessary to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe.
  • Reliable transportation required

 

COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION

The position is part-time and unpaid. We ask for a 3-month commitment, preferably between May and August. The start/end dates and work schedule are flexible.

We'll need you for a minimum of 10 hours a week.
